Common Applicant Questions

Registration & FeesIs there any registration or submission fee to enter the 4th CMU-iMRPC?
No. Registration and participation are 100% free across both the Preliminary 2-Page Proposal Round and the Top 10 Hybrid Final Round.
Preliminary DataDo we need completed lab experiments, clinical datasets, or preliminary empirical results?
No. Empirical data or completed lab results are neither required nor scored. Proposals may be at any stage prior to peer-reviewed journal publication, and reviewers are explicitly instructed not to penalize conceptual proposals without preliminary data.
Advisor & Team SizeIs a faculty advisor mandatory, and can students from different medical schools or countries team up?
A faculty advisor or mentor is strictly optional with zero scoring penalty. Teams may have 1 to 3 currently enrolled undergraduate medical students (MBBS, MD, or equivalent), and cross-institutional or cross-country teams are welcome.
Reviewer FeedbackDo teams outside the Top 10 Finalists still receive written faculty feedback?
Yes. Every submitting team receives an Official Evaluation Summary Report containing composite domain scores and written critiques (Strengths, Methodological Limitations, and Recommendations) from two matched faculty specialists.
Research TracksAre prizes split by track, or do all four Research Tracks compete together?
All four tracks (Basic & Pre-clinical Sciences, Clinical Specialties, Public Health & Health Systems, and Medical Technology & Artificial Intelligence) compete in one single unified pool for Top 10 slots and awards. Your chosen track matches your proposal to two specialists in your field.
Citations & FiguresCan we use APA citations or include multiple figures in the 2-page preliminary PDF?
In the 2-page preliminary PDF, your 3–5 mandatory references must use Vancouver or AMA style (APA is allowed on Finalist Oral Slides only, not in the 2-page PDF). Figures are optional (max 1 figure if needed to clarify complex design), carry 0 bonus points, and must fit inside the 2-page A4 limit.
Prior PresentationsIs our project eligible if it was previously presented as a poster or abstract at a student congress?
Yes. Projects presented at student congresses, symposia, or conferences remain eligible as long as the full manuscript has not been published or accepted in a peer-reviewed academic journal before 10 December 2026.
Thresholds & ArbitrationHow do the >40% Minimum Domain Thresholds and 3rd-Reviewer Arbitration work?
To qualify for the Top 10, your two-reviewer composite score must strictly exceed 40% in Domain 1 Feasibility (> 12.0 / 30), Domain 2 Need & Future Impact (> 14.0 / 35), and Domain 3 Novelty (> 10.0 / 25). Domain 4 Proposal Quality (10 pts) has no disqualification floor. An independent 3rd reviewer is assigned if Reviewer 1 and Reviewer 2 differ by > 15.0 total points or by > 10.0 points in a domain below threshold.
Hybrid Final RoundHow does the Hybrid Final on Sunday, 31 January 2027 work for Thai vs. international teams?
Top 10 finalists at medical schools in Thailand defend on-site at the Conference Room, 2nd Floor, The 50th Anniversary Building, MedCMU. International finalists outside Thailand defend live via Zoom Live (with a Virtual Green Room tech check and full stage projection). Every team gets a 20-minute slot (7-min pitch + 10-min Q&A + 3-min transition), scored 100% independently from the preliminary round.
